Before starting with today’s topic, let’s first talk about the series, Legion and what’s it about. This read will give you goals whether it is the right show for you or not.
ORIGINS OF LEGION :
Legion is a TV series that’s basically a mind-blowing adaptation of a Marvel comic. The story revolves around a superhero who is mentally unstable, suffering from schizophrenia. It’s unlike any other story about mutants and superheroes that you’ve ever read and this one is no less than an adventure ride. Now, if you haven’t seen it then honestly, you need to stop everything right now and start watching Legion because it’s definitely worth your time.
“A delusion starts like any other idea, like an egg. Identical on the outside, perfectly formed. From the shell, you’d never know anything was wrong. It’s what’s inside that matters.”
– Narrator, Legion, Season 2: Chapter 9
ONE OF THE MOST NOTABLE PICK OF LEGION :
Other than its visuals and shots that are disoriented, Legion comes with one main component that makes it unique and different from all the other TV series out there. By that component, we are referring to none other than the clothing and fashion styles. It’s a rollercoaster ride when it comes to the stylish clothes in Legion. Here you will see it all, from cool contemporary to British mod and even space-age and the best part is that you’ll love it all. Especially the Dan Stevens Legion Black Jacket is something to drool over.
“Human beings are the only animal that forms ideas about their world. We perceive it not through our bodies but through our minds. We must agree on what is real. Because of this, we are the only animal on Earth that goes mad.”
– Narrator, Legion, Season 2: Chapter 10
WHAT DOES THE COSTUME DESIGNER HAS TO SAY?
Carol Case who is the Legion’s costume designer, she explained that the costumes in Legion are nothing like the ones you see in other superhero movies and that they’ve consciously kept the styling different mainly because of the storyline. She further explained that it’s like in this series, all we are trying to do is to tell the story from inside the guy’s mind which is why restricting the clothes to superhero and mutant costumes wasn’t suitable.
If you are someone who is into fashion then you’d see that most of the styles in Legion are inspired by the rock bands of 1960, specifically The Who and The Kinks. Every single character in Legion comes with its own color palette;
- Syd Barrett (Rachel Keller): always in orange and black
- Kerry Loudermilk and Cary Loudermilk (Amber Midthunder and Bill Irwin): tan and navy
- David (Dan Stevens): He looks different than others and he usually wears grays, blues, and blacks.
In a nutshell, the crazy stylish clothes in Legion are just because the director wanted to give this series a major 1960’s touch and well that actually happened and no matter what the character is and who is playing it, you’ll always see some retro and vintage type touch in their dressing. But whatever the case is, all the clothes are worth drooling over just like the Legion TV Series David Haller Black Coat.
